The legendary Walter Cronkite, the CBS anchorman died today at the age of 92. I had the honor of meeting him here in Washington few years back. He was a person with an outstanding passion for his profession that today makes everyone in the world of journalism call him lovingly “Uncle Walter”. He was my husband’s friend and a colleague and both complimented each other for their talents in the media world. They talked about the Wars they had covered as journalists. They had so much in common to talk about. Today I am filled with emotions as I cherish all the memories of the time that I spent with my husband, Ivan Scott and Cronkite. I remember him behaving like a kid when he was on air in the television reporting about “The Launch of Man on the Moon”. He was a person who always wanted to listen to you and offer you help. He had worked in the print world during his early years and that made him believe that there is nothing greater than the power of the “WORD”. Mr.Cronkite always talked about his wife and family. I would like to quote his famous words “That’s the way it is”.
My heart extends to his family and wife Betty.
